18th March 21: (memorandum)
I woke up this morning to the news that shootings had started in Thamine township, near the flyover at 8:00 am. It saddens me that how Yangon has now turned into a battlefield without even me realising it.
At about 8:40 am I took a bus to Sanchaung and happened to share a seat with a woman, probably in her late 40s. As the bus drove past Yangon University, we together saw even more people queueing in line in front of KBZ bank, Kamayut brunch.
All of them I reckon were waiting to either withdraw their money or to close their account if the bank opens.
It was when the woman sat next to me asked me if she could use my mobile as she needed to call her family back at home. As she was talking to me I couldn’t help noticing her unfolding a piece of paper on which a few names & mobile numbers were written.
In normal circumstances I would but for some reasons I didn’t feel like it that I gave her an excuse that I left my mobile home as the police are checking them these days. Anyway lucky for her she got help from a man sat in front of us whom helped her call the number she gave twice but her calls were unanswered.
She gave up eventually and folded her piece of paper back again and as she did I caught a glimpse of just a few words in Burmese typed out on the back of it reads military headquarter.
Protest in Sanchaung started late today.
Most of the people I have become acquainted with at the protest over the last few days didn’t show up today. Actually the number of people at the protest appears to be thinning with every passing day now, but the protesters’ spirits remain high.
Security forces had taken control of Baho lane, police are now stationed at the corner of almost every street, all the barricades on the road were removed this morning.
Three reportedly arrested in Padonemar street today.
