I did not get it. I did not get it.

I have been chanting that phrase like a mantra.

Before yesterday, I lived by one hope. It was a kinda hope that made my days, painted my dreams, and whispered promises of a potential future. I clung to it, close to my chest, like my precious thing, for the past three full weeks.

Sadly, it has morphed into disappointment. The higher the expectations are, the bigger the disappointments turn out to be. I felt like the last light had dimmed. I was left with nothingness, and I found myself balancing unsteadily on the verge of that familiar suffocating void once again.  If it is not meant for me now, then when?

Yesterday, I discovered inspirations from a Japanese philosophy which offers a wonderful way to find new perspectives and ways of living. The concept is not like the popular "Ikigai" but sounds similar. It says there are four paths of life.
  1. The path that is given by God
  2. The path that your spirit has
  3. The path of love and creation
  4. The path that you have to challenge yourself to accomplish
Their elaboration, in my own twist, is as follows -

The path that is given by God

Our life is a gift from God, and He has bestowed upon us "things". These are attributes we possess before receiving any formal education. This God-given "things" could be our strengths or weaknesses. That said, not all of them are blessings. Some are favourable qualities such as attractive looks, melodious sweet singing voices, outstanding artistic skills, linguistics skills, you name it, while some qualities are manifested as disabilities or disadvantages.

However, regardless of the nature of these qualities and how they constitute, we must find them, embrace them, sharpen them, and establish a sense of balance among them.

So, the takeaway here is that we must identify this God-given qualities, and find a way to utilise them efficiently and effectively.

The path that your spirit has

This is rather centred around religious beliefs – fate, karma, past lives, and reincarnations. These are certain things we have no control over. For example, the colour of our skin, our birthplace, our parents, our tribes, and so on. Usually, these are things that make us question our dissatisfactions, and develop a victim mindset. Nonetheless, we must acknowledge, make peace with ourselves and accept them as they are.

They say acceptance is the first step to happiness. So be it.

The takeaway here is that we must find ways to come to terms with the fact that each of us is sent to this planet to learn, repay these karmic debts, and heal.

The path of love and creation

This means our destiny. Surprisingly, most of us have misinterpreted the word "destiny". We do not realise that our destiny is not our destination but the journey itself.

So basically, these are about things that we can change through our will, love, persistence, and self-discipline. Our choices, no matter how small they are, can change us. They constantly reshape us as we move forward.

We must be always conscious of our choices and understand why we are making those decisions. At the same time, we must always be aware that the choices that we are making are also shaping our destiny. Our choices in life can help us become better persons or lead us astray.

The takeaway here is that we may not be able to change who we are, but still, we can change what we want to be. We are the masters of our destiny, and we pull the strings. So, move on. Keep control of your life. Stay happy. Love yourself, spread it around and be kind to others.

The path that you have to challenge yourself to accomplish

The title says it all. No explanation is needed.

We have got to find purpose in life. Let's start with something small now, and challenge ourselves to accomplish them.

They could be anything, as small as learning a new language or picking up new hobbies.

Sure, the challenges will be difficult and require consistent effort but should we never underestimate our abilities and capabilities so that we can overcome and accomplish them.

The takeaway here is we must take calculated risks, invest our energies in the present, be open to failures, tolerate any discomforts, and evaluate our core beliefs.
