I met her at a friend's wedding a few days ago. She was so surprised to see me that she called out my name in excitement. The last time I had seen her was almost a year ago at our makeshift rooftop bar in MUA. She had many questions about me and wanted to know what I had been up to since I left work. However, the music was too loud to hold a conversation.
“Learning German,” I told her over the loud music but of course, she didn’t catch it. She asked me again for confirmation. I repeated myself but to no avail. She suggested we walk to a corner, out of the reception hall.
She then filled me in on the stories she had heard and learnt from our colleagues, many of which I didn't know myself. I could only smile at her and give credit to the incredible tales our colleagues had come up with about my departure. It was indeed very much fascinating to hear their imaginative versions of my story.

“Deutsch. I’m learning Deutsch,” I clarified. She finally understood and smiled.
“I heard about you,” she said. “You left because of a girl. Is that right?” She couldn’t hide her curiosity. I smiled generously before giving her an answer. We were not alone.
“Not really,” I replied.
“Everyone at the office was talking about it,” she said.
